| If you have downloaded InstantRecovery:
*REMINDER* - You must have a CD-R or CD-RW drive in order for you to create the
InstantRecovery CD (more info). If you are unable to create CD media from ISO images and you have purchased InstantRecovery as a "Download Only", please contact a NovaStor
sales representative to have the
CD sent to you (shipping charges will be added to your order).
- Create the InstantRecovery CD - Double-click the .exe file you've downloaded and follow the instructions to burn the program to CD
- If you have the ability to boot from CD, boot your system from the CD just
created and follow the screen prompts. If you don't have the ability to boot from
CD, you will have to create bootable floppies. Three 1.44" floppies are required for
this step. Upon inserting the created CD, it will
auto-run. If for some reason it does not, run the appropriate command for the
operating system you are using:
Windows XP: \SETUP\WINXP\SETUP.EXE Windows 2000: \SETUP\WIN2000\SETUP.EXE Windows NT: \SETUP\WINNT\SETUP.EXE Windows Me: \SETUP\WINME\SETUP.EXE Windows 98: \SETUP\WIN98\SETUP.EXE Windows 95: \SETUP\WIN95\SETUP.EXE Windows 3.x: \SETUP\WIN3X\SETUP.BAT DOS: \SETUP\DOS\SETUP.BAT Linux: \SETUP\LINUX\SETUP UNIX: \SETUP\UNIX\SETUP OS/2: \SETUP\OS2\SETUP
Insert the Boot Diskette in your floppy drive and reboot your computer.

InstantRecovery Setup Tips
Here are some helpful tips to know in case you have any problems
getting started. Such problems may fall into two categories:
- Connection Type issues - Unable to access hard disk(s) and/or CD devices.
- Mouse/Video issues.
Let's examine each in order:
CONNECTION TYPE ISSUES
- Problem 1 - Inability to 'find' the InstantRecovery program CD
In some cases you may need to 'wake up' your CD device by simply
ejecting and reloading the InstantRecovery program CD. Of course
you want to be sure you have inserted the correct CD as well.
If that doesn't help, go on to the next item ...
- Problem 2 - InstantRecovery does not display hard disks and/or CD-writers
If you're using an IDE/ATAPI connection, it's possible that the interface is
proprietary or out dated. This condition is quite rare and may occur
on computers built around 1995 or earlier.
One possible solution is to disable the onboard IDE controller and
install a newer controller.
If you're using a SCSI Host Adapter, it may not be using default settings in which
case you will need to add an 'optional parameter setting'.
You can add such a parameter by selecting NOT to automatically detect
your SCSI Host Adapter, then selecting your model SCSI Host Adapter
from the list which follows. Once you have made your selection you
will be given the opportunity to enter option parameters and you will
see an example of the syntax and a sample setting for reference.
MOUSE/VIDEO ISSUES
If the InstantRecovery display does not look correct or does not display
at all you probably will need to run 'manual' rather than 'automatic'
when given the choice to setup up your mouse and video.
Some video cards can successfully be identified while others cannot,
in which case you will be asked to supply your video card model.
If you don't know what your video card model is you can follow these steps:
- Press Ctl-Alt-F2 to access a command prompt.
- Run the 'vidprobe' command, which should display your video card
onscreen.
- Press Ctl-Alt-F1 to resume the setup application.
If either mouse or video problems persist you may need to simply
restart your computer by turning power off, then on to rerun setup.
Further, you may need to restart your computer WITHOUT turning off power.
You can do this by hitting a reset button or you can also enter the
'restart' command to restart your system. You can always access a command
prompt by pressing Ctl-Alt-F2. For more information on mouse and video detection,
